Sullivan Fortner
Sullivan Fortner is an American jazz pianist and composer, and a quickly rising young star on the American jazz circuit. Born in New Orleans, he started playing the piano from the age of four. He has a Bachelor's degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and a Master's degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Fortner is the pianist in trumpeter Roy Hargrove's quintet, plus he has studied and performed with the Marsalis family, Nicholas Payton, Gary Bartz, Irvin Mayfield, Dave Liebman and a host of others. In 2015, Fortner was the winner of the American Pianist's Association Cole Porter Fellowship in Jazz, a prize that also consisted of the opportunity to record for Mack Avenue Records. Early 2015 saw Fortner's first release as a bandleader leader with the Aria full-length for impulse! Records that has received acclaim from critics and fans alike.
